The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Xijing Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of the Air Force Medical University) in Xi'an was founded during the War of Resistance and has been led since 1954 by the renowned otolaryngologist Academician Jiang Sichang. Approved as a master's discipline in 1986 and a doctoral discipline in 1993, and formally renamed the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery on September 1, 2006, it is now headed by Director Zha Dingjun and serves patients from across China as well as Central Asia, Southeast Asia and beyond.

Zha Dingjun — Director
Chief Physician, Professor and doctoral supervisor; Standing Committee Member of the Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. Specializes in cochlear implantation, hearing reconstruction, acoustic neuroma, jugular foramen tumors, facial palsy and head and neck tumors; performed postdoctoral research at the Oregon Hearing Research Center (2009–2012) and was the first in western China to perform bonebridge implantation.
