The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology of Xijing Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital of the Air Force Medical University) in Xi'an was founded in 1954, with the renowned obstetrician-gynecologist Professor Wang Rongguang as its founding academic leader. Under department director Chen Biliang, it has grown into a comprehensive department with complete subspecialties — gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, perinatal medicine, prenatal diagnosis and assisted reproduction — and was the PLA's first doctoral-degree-granting discipline in obstetrics and gynecology, with a postdoctoral research station.

Uterus Transplantation — World-Leading

On 20 November 2015 the department performed China's first human uterus transplant (a mother's uterus transplanted into her daughter born without a uterus). On 20 January 2019, China's first baby conceived in a transplanted uterus was born here — verified as the first in China and the 14th worldwide. The team's "Xijing procedure" places the hospital at the international forefront for uterine-factor infertility.

Gynecologic Oncology

Standardized diagnosis and treatment of cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers, plus complex surgery and chemotherapy for recurrent tumors.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Hysteroscopic, laparoscopic and single-port laparoscopic surgery across the full range of gynecologic conditions.

Reproductive Medicine

Infertility care, IVF, artificial insemination, reproductive endocrinology and eugenic/perinatal care.

Prenatal Diagnosis & Eugenic Genetics

35 laboratory testing services — genetic counseling and diagnosis, single-gene disease testing, chromosome analysis, copy-number variation screening, single-gene prenatal diagnosis, non-invasive prenatal DNA testing and gynecologic tumor screening — within a standardized genetic counseling, prenatal screening, prenatal diagnosis and newborn screening pathway.

Perinatal Medicine & Critical Care

Management of high-risk pregnancy, obstetric critical illness and comorbidities as the Shaanxi Provincial Critical Maternal Rescue Center.
