It was renamed Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital in 1952, became an affiliated hospital of Shanghai Second Medical University in 1964, and adopted its current name in 2005. The hospital has five academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two of whom are in stomatology: Academician Qiu Weiliu and Academician Zhang Zhiyuan.
