Overview

The Department of Urology is one of the six traditional flagship disciplines of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University (Shanghai Changzheng Hospital). It is a National Key Discipline and a Shanghai Key Discipline, and the home of the PLA Urology Center and the PLA Institute of Organ Transplantation. The department was founded in 1959 by the renowned urology and kidney-transplantation specialists He Zongli, He Changmin, Min Zhilian and Zhu Youhua; its former directors include He Zongli, He Changming, Min Zhilian, Zhu Youhua, Xu Danfeng and Wang Linhui, and its current director — who also serves as Director of the PLA Urology Center — is Professor Ren Shancheng.

Over decades of development the department built a strong reputation in kidney transplantation, achieving multiple "firsts in China," and in recent years it has become led by minimally invasive technology, organized around five sub-specialty directions: urologic oncology (prostate, kidney and bladder cancer), prostate disease, urinary stones, andrology, and pelvic floor disorders.

Prostate Cancer
